YTP Leadership

 

The YTP Executive Committee consists of nine members, who administer the logistics of the organization, coordinate YTP events and maintain member relations. Members are invited to serve either as officers or in supportive roles. Officer elections take place annually in September, and ad-hoc requests to support leadership are accepted at any time---just send an emial to the officer with whom you're interested in working.

Officer Roles:

President

The President is responsible for coordinating YTP leadership, calling for executive committee meetings, representing YTP externally and maintain YTP's relationship with WITA.

 

President Emeritus

President Emeritus positions are held by YTP's previous Presidents. The President Emeritus serves as an Executive Committee member-at-large, and provides input to ensure fluidity of YTP operations. 

 

Vice President

The Vice President is responsible for presiding over YTP in the absence of the President, as well as working closely in conjunction with Budget and Organizational Development Officers on their tasks.

 

Budget

The Budget Officer is responsible for all of YTP's budgetary matter. Responsibilities include:

  •  Drafting YTP's annual budget within one month of fund allocation from WITA
  • Ensuring YTP's adherence to teh budget, including submitting new items to teh Executive Committee for approval

 

Communications

The Communications Officer is responsible for maintaining and expanding YTPs membership, largely through external relations and internal communication. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing YTP's marketing strategy to attract new members
  • Reaching out to organizations around Washington whose employees may be interested in YTP
  • Acting aas YTP's external wing, and establish professional contacts around Washington

 

Organizational Development

The Organizational Development Officer is responsible for increasing the efficiency and efficacy of YTP, as well as ensuring that the transition of leadership after election is fluid. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing YTPs working plans and strategic goals
  • Building leadership through experience managing the organization
  • Coming up with creative ideas for increasing efficiency

 

Programming

The Programming Officer is in charge of managing YTP's events calendar. The Programming Committee suggests forum speakers and topics, and determines venues for forums, meetings and happy hours. Responsibilities include:

  • Shaping YTP's calendar, including forums and happy hours
  • Maintaining contact with forum speakers and coordinate topics for forums
  • Setting up events that would provide YTP members with exclusive insight into trade inner-circle

 

Membership Outreach

The Membership Outreach Officer is responsible for integrating new members into the organization and enlarging the existing membership base. The Committee is also responsible for cultivating and expanding YTP's relationship with other Young Professional groups in and around Washington DC. Responsibilities include:

  • Expanding YTP's membership and helping new members integrate into the organization
  • Maintaining YTP's social networking sites
  • Liaising with other professional groups in Washington to identify opportunities to collaborate
 
 
 
 

Officer Biographies:

Andrew Northup, President, Coalition of Service Industries  

 

Andrew joined YTP in 2009, and was elected YTP President in August 2010. Andrew graduated from 2008 from Central College in Pella, Iowa with degrees in Political Science and Spanish. Andrew came to Washington to work for U.S. Congressman Leonard Boswell upon graduating, and has been involved in several campaigns before and since including the 2008 General Election.

Andrew currently works at the Coalition of Service Industry (CSI) where he is Program Associate. At CSI he focuses on Congressional outreach and local content restrictions. Andrew speaks Spanish and French, and in his free time enjoys learning and speaking languages, traveling, cooking, and development theory, and he is regarded in certain circles as a political pundit.

David Gorgani, President Emeritus, Inter-American Development Bank

David works as a Research Fellow in the Grants and Co-Financing Management Unit of the Inter-American Development Bank, where he coordinates the financing of non-reimbursable development projects in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Introduced to trade while studying Economics and International Relations at UCLA, David moved to Washington in January of 2009 and shortly thereafter served as a WITA intern. Recognizing the need for a social and professional network of individuals with nascent careers in trade, David coordinated with colleagues at WITA (notably intern Eric Lamb, Univ. of Colorado) and contacts elsewhere to found Young Trade Professionals, and served as its first President. As President, David oversaw the establishment of YTP’s institutionalized leadership, YTP’s first round of elections. and a significant expansion of YTP’s membership.

David holds a B.A. in Economics/International Area Studies and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Andre Nakazawa, Vice President, United States Senate, Office of Sen. Wyden

Andre is a Legislative Aide for Senator Ron Wyden from Oregon. His portfolio includes cybersecurity, international trade, foreign affairs, intelligence, and immigration, among others. Before moving to D.C. in August 2009, Andre was an Associate Producer for the documentary film "Papers", which has been screened in all 50 states as well as internationally. Andre is also the co-founder of Language Twin, an e-learning company incorporated in Oregon that facilitates the conversational aspect of language learning in university course curricula by offering video chat language exchanges between students from different countries. Andre is a member of the Aspen Institute's Socrates Society and a Truman Congressional Security Scholar. Andre graduated from the University of Oregon cum laude with a B.A. in economics and political science.

Anish Tailor, Budget Coordinator, Elliot School, George Washington University

Anish joined YTP upon arriving in Washington DC in August 2010.  He is currently a Masters student at the GWU Elliott School of International Affairs in the International Trade & Investment Policy program.  Anish also interns at the Institute of International Finance in  the Global Macroeconomics Analysis dept.  Previously, Anish worked for the Commerce Dept's Commercial Service in the US Embassy in Singapore, specializing in trade-related issues facing American small businesses. He holds a BA in Finance and International Studies from SMU in Dallas, Texas.

Cassie Gao, Communications Coordinator, Washington International Trade Association (WITA)

Cassie joined YTP in 2012. She recently graduated from Cornell University with specialization in Economics and Asian Studies. She is interested in International Economics and Trade with concentration in teh China-Pacific region. Cassie is beginning her Masters in Public Administration in the summer of 2012 and is looking forward to international trade as a career.

Tana Farrington, Organizational Dvelopment Coordinator, Kalik Lewin

Tana joined YTP in 2010.  She received a Bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in International Relations from San Francisco State University in 2008, and a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of San Francisco in 2010. Tana first came to Washington in 2009 to intern at the Office of the ITA Standards Liaison at the International Trade Administration, where she worked on standardization issues affecting American exporters.  In 2010, she was an International Trade Assistant at the U.S. and Foreign Commercial Service Export Assistance Center in San Francisco where she organized a Gold Key Matching Service program to Croatia and Hungary and assisted local businesses with their exporting inquiries.  Tana joined Kalik Lewin, a boutique international trade law firm, in October 2010 as an International Trade Analyst.  At Kalik Lewin, Tana specializes in international trade issues, including all aspects of a current antidumping case at the Department of Commerce and International Trade Commission.

Drew Soloski, Programming Coordinator, Albright Stonebridge Group

Drew joined YTP in 2008 and has served as Programming Coordinator since April 2011.  He was previously a Economic Researcher with the Embassy of Korea in Washington, DC and worked primarily on promoting congressional ratification of the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement.  He is currently a director at the Albright Stonebridge Group, where he works on the firm’s China practice.  He holds a B.A. in Chinese Language and Literature from the University of Iowa and an M.A. in China Studies from the University of Hong Kong.

Ashley Zuelke, Member Outreach Coordinator, Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs, U.S. Department of Commerce
Ashley works in the Secretary's Office of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs at the U.S. Department of Commerce. She served a detail this summer with the National Export Initiative in Commerce's International Trade Administration. Ashley joined YTP shortly after coming to Washington, DC, in January 2010 to serve as an International Trade Associate at the Senate Finance Committee.  Her interest in international trade took root as she interned in the economic section of the U.S. Embassy in Paris, focusing on export promotion policy and cultural diplomacy.  Ashley holds bachelor's degrees in Journalism, International Relations and Comparative Politics with a concentration in French from the University of Montana.
