WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- South Korean Trade Minister Kim Jong-hoon Wednesday ruled out renegotiating the free trade agreement with the U.S., but said he was open to considering any remaining concerns about the deal.
"Renegotiation is not something that you can do," Kim told an event hosted by the Washington International Trade Association. "Once the deal is done, it's done."
Kim said he is aware of concerns among U.S. government officials and members of Congress about market access for U.S. autos and beef, but hasn't received any official proposals yet.
"I can understand their position--they can't say anything to me officially before they finish their own consultations with Congress," he said.
U.S. President Barack Obama has stressed his intention to submit to Congress free trade pacts with South Korea, Colombia and Panama, which he inherited from the previous administration. But the deals have been held up by efforts to address outstanding concerns by members of Congress.
