Jan. 23 (Bloomberg) -- Canada and the U.S. agreed to extend their softwood lumber accord for two years, according to a statement from the Canadian trade minister’s office.
The agreement, which was set to expire in October 2013, will be in effect to 2015, according to the statement released today.
After two decades of legal fights and diplomatic discord over Canadian lumber exports to the U.S., the two governments negotiated an export-tax system in 2006 that includes limits on Canadian subsidies to domestic lumber producers.
