James Wilkinson, CAE

Executive Director James Wilkinson joined WITA  in 2003. He is committed to growing the organization's membership by continuing WITA's programming tradition of offering timely topics, compelling speakers, and premier events.  Prior to joining WITA, James managed business development and customer relations for several international educational organizations.   Since joining WITA, membership has grown from under 1000 to 1600+ members.

In Feb. 2012 he was appointed by US Secretary of Commerce John Bryson to the MD-DC District Export Council (DEC), which is a joint government/industry organization helping SME's in MD and DC to start, or grow, their export operations.

James recently earned the prestigious CAE credential (June, 2011) from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and his Masters of Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University, (Dec. 2008.).  He has a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Maryland at College Park, as well as a BS in Education from Frostburg State University in Frostburg, MD. 

James was elected Mayor Pro Tem for the Town of Berwyn Heights, MD in May 2010.  In this capacity, he chairs Town Meetings and Council Work Sessions when the Mayor is not present; represents the Town at public events if the Mayor cannot; and serves as Department Head for the Public Works Department.  He has served as a Council Member since May of 2009.

James is the proud father of 3 children-son Taj, & daughters Anya and Kira. He enjoys spending time with his wife Nipa and their family, lazy time playing in Sleepy Creek (WV), hammock testing, gardening, all things soccer, and a quiet cup of chai now and then....when he can find the time.

 Fun Fact:  James has always gone by  "James", not 'Jim'!

Javiera Gallardo

Javiera Gallardo joined WITA in 2009 and manages policy events, the website, interns, embassy and press relations and is heavily involved in expanding WITA through innovative growth strategies. Prior to joining WITA, Ms. Gallardo worked at the Coalition of Service Industries (CSI) as a consultant where she helped organize their first Global Services Summit. Prior to that, she was a consultant at the Embassy of Chile's International Trade Department and a Business Associate at Grant Thornton LLP. Ms. Gallardo holds a BS in Finance and minor in International Systems from George Mason University. She is finishing an International Development Certificate at Johns Hopkins SAIS and an Executive Leadership Certificate at Cornell. On the weekends she is taking classes as part of her MBA program at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. Ms. Gallardo speaks English and Spanish fluently, beginners Russian and is actively and enthusiastically learning Portuguese.

Cassie Gao

Cassie Gao is a recent graduate from Cornell University with specialization in Economics and Asian Studies. She is interested in International Economics and Trade with concentration in the China-Pacific region. As WITA staff she is involved in event registration and membership development. Cassie is beginnig her Masters in Public Administration in summer of 2012 and is looking forward to international trade as a career.
