This Opportunity
TradeMoves is currently seeking a full-time Senior International Trade Analyst to join our team. The selected candidate will support client projects and support TradeMoves’ team in providing high-quality deliverables specific to clients’ cross-border trade priorities, ranging from insights on tariffs and taxes imposed on goods crossing borders, understanding regulatory requirements for U.S. exports, and analyzing data across key trade lanes.
This position requires professional experience in international trade, high attention to detail; strong communication, editing, and writing skills; research background and/or data analysis skills; and the ability to work well with others, and independently. Background food and agricultural trade preferred.
Location
This is currently a remote-work position with occasional in-person team meetings, with the potential for a future return-to-office or hybrid work environment. Ideal candidates will be located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Overview of Responsibilities
The Senior International Trade Analyst serves as a critical member of the TradeMoves team, acting both as an individual contributor and a project coordinator. The Senior International Trade Analyst will be expected to manage deliverables to completion, engaging in tasks anywhere from technical research, data pulls and analysis, and quality control reviews. TradeMoves’ Senior International Trade Analysts interface with clients, contribute to business development, support the overall growth of the business. The following are typical responsibilities and assignments for this position, which may vary depending on client demands and workload.
Analysis and client service
- Gather and synthesize tariff and tax information into client-ready deliverables for a variety of cross-border supply chain projects, primarily for the processed food sector.
- Conduct research and extract intelligence on import requirements, customs issues, agriculture/food issues, regulatory measures, and trade policy issues of interest to clients.
- Monitor and alert to proposed changes by governments to import requirements, standards of identity, customs issues, agriculture/food issues, regulatory measures, and trade policy of interest to clients.
- Respond to client inquiries and information requests in a timely manner.
- Conduct data analyses and maintain oversight of in-house and client databases.
- Provide preparation and on-site support for clients’ trade-related meetings/events, as needed. Other trade projects and assignments, as needed.
Coordination and review
- Coordinate with team to ensure all projects and daily workload are being completed or escalated as needed.
- Review, edit, and stress-test team member deliverables for quality control and ensure deliverables follow internal methodologies.
- Train and mentor analysts, providing guidance and insight into cross-border trade issues to support their professional development.
Internal support
- Support business development efforts (proposal drafting, attendance at events, etc.)
- Assist in managing, drafting, and publishing posts on TradeMoves’ social media platforms, such as TradeMoves’ blog, LinkedIn and Twitter.
- Other administrative tasks, as needed.
Experience required:
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 3 years of experience in the field of regulatory affairs, trade operations or trade policy, or Master’s degree in an international trade-related field with at least 2 years of experience in the field of trade operations, trade policy or regulatory affairs.
- Demonstrated experience in working with tariff classifications, the Harmonized Tariff System, and country tariff schedules.
- Working knowledge of free trade agreements, reduction schedules, market access chapters, rules of origin, and quotas.
- Familiarity with foreign markets’ regulatory requirements and non-tariff barriers affecting movement of raw materials, intermediate goods, and finished food products.
- Up to date on current cross-border trade issues, including US trade actions and countries’ countermeasures and engagement.
- Experience with statistical and data analysis or proposal development preferred
- Strong understanding of US trade regulatory and promotion agencies (USTR, ITA, CS, USDA FAS, OFAC, etc.)
- Interest/experience in working with small businesses and understanding needs of a small company

- Tenaciousness to learn, exhaust available resources, and provide innovative solutions
- Outstanding interpersonal and client-service skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, especially in Microsoft Excel.
- Foreign language skills preferred, but not required: Mandarin or Arabic
- Knowledge with the following tools preferred, but not required: Power Bi, Tableau, graphic design software (Illustrator, Canva, Photoshop, etc.)
