Lithuania Asks EU For ‘Strong Reaction’ To Chinese Pressure

Lithuania’s foreign minister is asking the EU to intervene on its behalf as China steps up political and economic pressure against the Baltic country in a diplomatic dispute over relations with Taiwan.

In a letter to EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis and the bloc’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Monday, Gabrielius Landsbergis said China was raising “unacceptable” economic pressure “to an unprecedentedly high level.”

He confirmed in the letter seen by POLITICO that Lithuanian exporters are no longer able to enter the Chinese market, with the country’s name wiped off China’s customs clearance list.
