U.S. Secretary of Commerce

Today, following the House’s introduction of the America Competes Act to rebuild the domestic semiconductor manufacturing industry, strengthen supply chains, and invest in critical research, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo released the following statement:

“I want to thank Speaker Pelosi and the Committees for all their work to introduce this legislation, which includes essential funding to rebuild America’s semiconductor manufacturing industry, making sure the future of innovation continues in the United States, and strengthens our supply chain resiliency. Semiconductors keep our economy running and are increasingly important as our economy becomes more digital. Rebuilding our domestic manufacturing industry will keep our country safe, increase our global competitiveness, shore up our supply chains, reduce costs, and create good-paying manufacturing jobs right here at home.

“The House bill builds on the important bipartisan work in both the House and Senate to come to agreement on the Senate passed U.S. Innovation and Competition Act. I talk every day with lawmakers from both sides of the aisle and in both the House and Senate about the urgent need to advance this legislation. This is an issue with bipartisan support and I look forward to doing what I can to get this bill to the President’s desk. Today’s bill introduction brings us one step closer to getting the job done.”
