With slaughterhouse workers among those next in line to receive Covid-19 vaccines in some U.S. states, JBS — the world’s biggest meat packer — is offering a $100 bonus to encourage employees to receive the shots.
JBS is planning a “massive” rollout of vaccines by early next month at its JBS USA and Pilgrim’s Pride facilities. Several U.S. states were nearing the so-called 1B phase in the vaccine program that includes frontline essential workers such as those at food plants.
The immunization program signals hope for an industry that was hit hardby the virus last year, with thousands of workers at red-meat and poultry plants catching it and hundreds dying.
